Ahhh… Memories

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

I was on the phone with my mother last night, talking about work, and she reminded me about when she used to send a cake to us (I have two sisters) on our birthdays when we were away at college. I reminded her that while it was awesome tasting, it usually arrived in pieces. For my sister, whose birthday is in September, it really helped her to break the ice and make friends because she shared it with everyone on her dorm floor. It’s so much easier for parents to do so now thanks to Bake Me A Wish — we send it and it arrives as perfect as when it gets packed up. Parents have it so easy nowadays.

Happy Birthday, Gwendolyn — Thanks For All YOU Do

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Just one of the many reasons why I love the place I work — because we make people happy! We received the following testimonial:

Thanks a million for the birthday cake and it couldn’t have came at a better time. I’ve been deployed since January 15, 2007, so this is my second birthday spent in Afghanistan. I was feeling really down about this and was longing to return to the U.S. even more, until the unit mail clerk handed me the box with the cake inside. I was so surprised first of all and then thrilled to know that “Operation Birthday Cake” exist and that we haven’t been forgotten about on those important days in our lives. I’m with the 82nd Airborne Division from Ft. Bragg, NC and we’ll be returning home in April (I can’t wait :-) Again, thanks for the thought and gift.

Sincerely,

Gwendolyn

Birthday Fun Facts

â—Š The birthday cake has been an integral part of the birthday tradition in Western cultures since the middle of the 19th century. The Greeks were some of the first to celebrate birthdays with cakes, however these were the birthdays for the gods and goddesses. The celebration for the Greek moon god, Artemis, included a cake topped with lit candles.

◊ One’s champagne birthday, also called a golden birthday, is the day when the age someone turns is the same as the day in the month he or she was born. It is also common for the birthday individual to have champagne, thus champagne birthday.

Bringing one of these would guarantee you being asked back next year, dont you think? Cant make it to dinner at Moms? Bet shed forgive you if you sent her one

Operation: Birthday Cake

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

One of the things I really admire about Bake Me A Wish as company is our involvement with Operation: Birthday Cake. If theres a soldier you want to send a birthday cake to, you can pick from any of our wonderfully decadent cakes. Then 5% of your order will also be contributed to Bake Me A Wish!s Operation: Birthday Cake, which, with our partners the Armed Forces Foundation and Soldiers™ Angels donates birthday cakes each month to soldiers overseas. Its pretty awesome knowing how this bit of sweetness will really brighten up a soldiers (and many of his friends cause believe me, its a rare person who can eat one of our cakes by themselves) day. Feels good being a part of that.
