Gross Cakes- A Round of Cakes You’d Never Want to Eat

I don’t know when it specifically became my job to look up gross cakes on the internet but let me tell you, the whole thing makes me wildly uncomfortable. First off, I am still confused who the people are who eat these cakes or if it is just an online fetish for people to make the most disgusting cakes.  Honestly. when did we stop wanting red velvet cake and instead crave a rat shaped cake? Yes, here I am on my soap box.

Do you want to know my secret theory? I’m telling you anyway. I think there is one person somewhere in the US who just sits in his basement and dreams up gross cakes and then floods the internet with these photos. If there is, I’d like to meet him.

What do you think?

Is it time for another cake contest already? We can’t wait! This week show off your creativity for a chance to win.

Using the phrase: “All I really needed to know I learned from eating cake,” finish this sentence with things you’ve learned.

Example: All I really need to know I learned from eating cake, move fast or you’ll never get the last piece.

Take advice from a spot Glenn Beck did with BMAW where he said that his favorite way to eat cake was from the middle, because then no one else wanted any! To watch the piece, see here: http://www.bakemeawish.com/banner/Television/GlenBeck7.3.08.wmv
Please answer here, on facebook or via Twitter! Extra points (as always) for subscribing to our blog.

A Call to Action: Support the Cake Girls!

Monday, April 26th, 2010

We just recently learned about the fire that destroyed the Cake Girls cake shop in downtown Chicago.

Brenda Maher was about to drive to work at Cakegirls early this morning when her sister Mary called sobbing. The upscale Lake View bakery that the pair launched from scratch in 2003 was engulfed in flames.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” said Maher, who rushed to the store from her home in Portage Park. “When I saw it I felt like I was going to throw up. I just felt nauseous.”

“We put a lot of work into this business,” she had said hours earlier. “Now in a flash it doesn’t exist. This is devastating. This is our livelihood. We built this from nothing.”

The building at 2209 W. Belmont Ave., with Cakegirls on its ground level, was judged a total loss, with firefighters battling the blaze only to keep it from spreading.

By the time the Maher sisters arrived on the scene, they said water was pouring out of the charred structure, carrying blackened debris and cake frosting into the street.

The entrepreneurial ladies, though, aren’t about to let a fire get them down. In order to maintain their employees salaries while waiting rebuild (and lacking the space to build cakes!), they are selling t-shirts. Consider buying one here: http://www.thecakegirls.com/

Cake Thief Makes Amends!

Friday, April 23rd, 2010
Taken from here:
LONDON: A Briton, who was racked with guilt after stealing a cake as a schoolboy 50 years ago, decided to make amends by handing back a packet of the orange-flavoured cake to his stunned former boss.

John Bibby was 15 went he stole a packet of Jaffa Cakes while working at the Linzi Coffee Bar on a holiday camp in Skipsea, East Yorkshire. The incident took place in 1960, Daily Mail reported.

Bibby, now 65, drove nearly 50 miles from his home in York to own up to Les Simpson, who lives near Beverley, East Yorkshire.

“I was working there as a part-time summer job while still at school. I’ve always had a sweet tooth, I was hungry and thought I would have just one Jaffa Cake from a packet. But I ended up eating the whole lot and never told anybody about it.

“You forget so much over the years, yet this just stuck in my mind – I have never done anything like it before or since. I drove to see him and immediately said, `Les, I have something to confess’. I pulled out the pack of Jaffa Cakes and told him the story, the first time I have ever admitted what I did to anybody. It felt like a weight off my shoulders. This time I did not touch the cakes,” Bibby was quoted as saying.

Simpson said that he knew “nothing about it”.

“It’s 50 years ago. He didn’t need to worry about it, I mean what’s a packet of Jaffa Cakes? I don’t even like Jaffa Cakes. From the look on his face I think he thought I was going to tell him off after all these years. We ended up roaring with laughter about it.”
