Memories of Fall… Caramel Apple Cake Giveaway!

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

As weathers cool, leaves change and kids are back in school, I’m reminded of the wonderful memories I have of the autumn season. I recall seeing friends again after a summer away & the haunted houses we’d go to. As a younger child, it meant hay rides, apple orchards, cider and caramel apples. It’s interesting that September seems more a fresh start for me then, say, new years. In my mind, this is the start of new beginnings and old comfort.

As a salute to fall, I want to give away to one of our readers a Caramel Apple Crumb cake – the perfect cake for an autumn breakfast (or late night treat!). All you have to do is comment on this post and tell us what your favorite memory of fall is. Have at it – we’ll announce a winner on facebook and twitter on Monday morning, so you have until then to comment.

Mmm… its my birthday this week. Luckily, I’m off on an amazing trip to South Africa. What I’m hoping for all the same is this Vanilla Bean Cake:

Bake Me A Wish Supports Soldiers Angels

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Have you heard about the work we do with Soldier’s Angels?

When you purchase the Freedom Cake for a recipient here in the US, Bake Me A Wish! will deliver a gourmet cake to a soldier serving overseas, in the name of your recipient. Each cake features a special card informing the recipient that a cake has been sent to a soldier in their name, alongside an imprint of the American Flag.

This program is in coordination with our partner, Soldiers’ Angels, who provides us with soldiers in need of encouragement and support.

Thank You General Martin

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Last week, Bake Me A Wish! had the honor of donating cakes for the retirement party of Brig. General Patrick Martin.  General Martin began his career in the US navy as a Petty Office second class in 1974 and finished a degree in  Electronic and Electrical engineering in 1983 from North Dakota university.  Over the following 27 years he held posts as Civil Engineering Officer in the 119th Civil Engineering Squadron and BioEnvironmental Engineer in the 119th Medical Squadron, eventually making his way to Chief of Joint Staff, and the Assistant Adjutant General for Air, in Joint Forces Headquarters.   Click here to read his complete bio.

A true hero, as evident in his dedication to our armed forces and his desire to help others succeed, we salute you General Martin.  Thank you for a lifetime of service.

Happy Birthday Harry! He turns 26 today!

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

When I say the english Harry, it may bring up thoughts of Harry Potter!  No, no – I’m talking about Prince Harry.  Seems like only yesterday I was watching Charles and Diana’s wedding; and here we are, 29 years later, and their youngest boy is turning 26.  A hearty Happy Birthday to you Harry.

We here at Bake Me A  Wish! have a special fondness for his dedication to the British army, given our support of American Troops.  If you’re not aware, Harry is training to be an Apache helicopter pilot and recently gave up seats to wounded veterans for a charity concert; he also refused complimentary tickets so that he could purchase them “just like everyone else”.  Sounds like someone in the royal family has his head on straight (despite some youthful indiscretions).
