Great Cake Bake – Knoxville, TN

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Attention readers in the Knoxville, TN area! We just heard that the Knox county Public Library is holding the 2nd annual Great Cake Bake at the newly renovated Neyland Stadium this Saturday, 3/26 from noon to 5pm! The event will showcase the skills of cake decoraters from all levels – amateur to professional as well as a variety of children activities. Admission is only $5.00 and children under 10 are free.

Sounds like a great way to spend Saturday afternoon and it all goes to a good cause – the Imagination Library. This organization, started by Dolly Parton actually, helps promote literacy at the pre-school level by sending book to children in local communities. You can learn more by clicking their logo below.

We found a great photo of the some of the kind of cakes you’ll see at knoxnews.com from 2010.

A Heartwarming Birthday Tradition

Monday, March 7th, 2011

We ran across this article over the weekend that we wanted to share – two Bonnies in Minnesota have been sending the same birthday card to each other for 50 years!  Pretty amazing!  Well, honestly, they were following the instructions in side the card; but rather than be “thrifty”, as card suggests, they ended up re-signing the card, including a personal note and sending the birthday greeting in a fresh envelope.  The result?  50 years of signatures and memories that solidified a wonderful friendship through decades.

Honors from Iraq

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

As you know, 5% of our online sales are attributed to our partnership with Soldiers Angels to provide gourmet birthday cakes to deployed service members overseas as part of our Operation Birthday Cake program.  To date, we’ve sent thousands of cakes either from retail purchases or direct donations made possible by our shoppers who simply sent a cake to a loved one for their birthday.  Each and every day we receive soldier responses about how we’ve helped boost morale while our military personnel are fighting for our freedoms so far from home.

Today, we received a fine honor from Cpt. Dan over at the 14th Trans. Battalion at the Joint Base Balad, Iraq.  There is no greater feeling than to receive recognition for the good works you are doing; this wonderful command team encourages to keep on sending cakes and keep on letting our service members know they are appreciated and valued by their citizens back at home.
