As you know, Bake Me A Wish!, in coordination with its non-profit partner, Soldiers Angels, recognizes our deployed soldiers by sending gourmet birthday cakes to those serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere through our Operation Birthday Cake Program. We use a portion of our online sales to help support this program, as well as offering the Freedom Cakes, which allows our fellow citizens to directly donate to service personnel in the name of their recipient.
Over the past few years, Soldiers Angels has worked with politicians to create the “Day of the Deployed” in over 40 states to recognize our military men, women and their families on October 26th of each year. Now, we are working to make that a nationally recognized day to further their support. This effort, senate resolution 253, is spearheaded by Senator Hoven from North Dakota. Please take a moment to read the following release and send your support of this resolution to your Senator so that we can enforce our good will, prayers and thoughts for the men and women who fight for our freedom everyday.
HOEVEN CALLS FOR NATIONAL ‘DAY OF THE DEPLOYED’ TO RECOGNIZE SOLDIERS’ SACRIFICES
AUGUST 2, 2011 WASHINGTON – Building on his resolution as North Dakota’s governor, Senator John Hoeven introduced S. Res. 253, a resolution in the U.S. Senate to designate Oct. 26, 2011, as “Day of the Deployed” in recognition of the sacrifices of U.S. servicemen and women currently deployed around the world.
“Our men and women in uniform work tirelessly to serve our country and protect our freedoms, and we cannot do enough to thank them and their families for the sacrifices they willingly make. A national ‘Day of the Deployed’ would be a meaningful recognition of our soldiers’ dedication and the American people’s appreciation,” Hoeven said.
In North Dakota, Hoeven launched Oct. 26 as “Day of the Deployed” in 2006, in support of Soldiers’ Angels, a nonprofit organization that aids deployed American military personnel and their families. In 2010, 40 states had joined the effort, proclaiming a “Day of the Deployed.”
Hoeven is engaging other senators to support the resolution so it can pass the Senate.
Americans are encouraged to reaffirm their patriotism and allegiance to our flag and country, and to honor our brave men and women in uniform who are selflessly putting their lives on the line to protect and preserve our way of life.
Soldiers’ Angels is asking your support of S. Res. 253 by communicating the importance of this national day of honor to your state senators by simply sending them a letter, email or phone call requesting they co-sponsor S. Res. 253 with Senator John Hoeven.
