Easy New Year’s Eve Party Treats for the Super Busy

Thursday, December 26th, 2013

New Year's Eve Party TreatsThrowing a New Year’s Eve bash? Make sure you’ve got the treats that’ll keep your guests smiling well past midnight.

Christmas is over and New Year’s Eve is fast approaching. And if you’ve volunteered your home for the big celebration, you’re probably scrambling to put a menu together right about now.

For many people, New Year’s Eve is the last hurrah for the holiday eating fest. Come New Year’s Day, they’ll be dusting off the scales and renewing their gym memberships. So you better make it count!

Here are a few easy, must-have treats for your New Year’s Eve extravaganza:

Shrimp Cocktail — These tend to go fast, so make sure you buy lots. Most stores sell pre-assembled shrimp cocktail party platters, making this a simple and delicious appetizer that can be stacked in the fridge and pulled out as needed.

Cake — No party is complete without a cake! Serve each guest a slice with a glass of champagne for the countdown. We can make it really easy on you by delivering a gourmet cake directly to your front door, complete with an occasion plaque made of Belgian chocolate.

Chips and Dip — The old party standby. Chips and dip are a super easy and cheap way to keep people noshing all night long. Place bowls of chips throughout your house, so everybody can partake.

Veggies — You’ve got to have something to make everybody feel a little healthier, especially since some people will be starting their diet in the morning. You wouldn’t want them to shock their systems. Every grocery store has these ready to serve. But, if you have some extra time, it’s cheaper to buy the veggies and cut them up yourself.

Champagne — Well, of course you need champagne (and sparkling cider for the non-drinkers). You might want to think about picking up some plastic champagne flutes too, if you don’t have the real thing. They look a lot classier than red Solo cups.

Pizza — Even if your party invitation says “drinks and hors d’oeuvres,” some of your guests will still “forget” to eat dinner before they come over. Pizza is an easy way to keep people full and happy. The bake-at-home variety are best for parties because you can serve hot pizzas all night.

If you don’t have a ton of time to plan a New Year’s Eve party, just keep it simple. These easy New Year’s Eve treats are sure to make your party a success. Here’s to a Happy New Year’s from Bake Me a Wish!

Holiday Gift Ideas for Distant Family and Friends

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

Shopping for a distant family member or friend can be a real challenge. What do they do in their free time? What hobbies are they into? What size sweater do they wear?

When you don’t see a person on a regular basis, it can be tough thinking of a present they’ll truly get a kick out of. Sometimes you’re better off sending them a gift that anybody would enjoy, like something sweet!

Cake and other bakery delights are a favorite of the holiday season, and almost everyone appreciates a gourmet baked good. (Don’t worry — we’ve got ideas for health nuts too).

Here are a few fun suggestions based on the recipient’s personality:

Red Velvet Cake The Romantic

Nothing says “romance” like the color red. Give the passionate people on your list a seductive red velvet cake — two rich red layers of chocolate cake, filled and covered with pure cream cheese frosting, and then garnished with white chocolate sprinkles. That’s amore!

Coffee Cake

The Morning Person

Got an early riser on your list? Help them make the most of the wee hours of the day with a eye-opening, gourmet coffee cake. We’ve got several scrumptious morning delights to choose from, including cinnamon, raspberry, chocolate, pumpkin, and more. Now that’s how you start the day.

Freedom CakeThe Veteran

Surprise a veteran on your list and a soldier serving overseas. When you purchase one of our Freedom Cakes for a person in the U.S., we’ll deliver another gourmet cake to an active soldier overseas in the name of your recipient. Each cake features a special card informing the recipient that a cake has been sent to a soldier in their name, alongside an imprint of the American flag.

Fruit Gift BasketThe Health Nut

As far as we’re concerned, the holidays are the perfect time to indulge in sweets. But some people are good all year round. Send the healthy eaters on your list an orchard fresh fruit basket. This attractive wicker basket includes a variety of pears and apples, a navel orange, a kiwi, and a pineapple. We also include sweet onion crackers, pistachios, and smoke gouda to cleanse their palates.
