Tsk Tsk Cake Boss

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

I’m all about giving away cakes and making people feel good, but at a recent event in Philly the Cake Boss’ own Buddy V. was handing out cakes and making people wait in line for HOURS! One man, who cut the line and went to storage (to take one of thousands of cakes – as there were more than enough to go around), was arrested by police (ok, ok, he also stole a laptop). In fact, the police released a statement how the event caused bad blood… people were cutting, fighting in line and causing quite a commotion. NO WONDER! Stand a bunch of hungry sweet-tooths in a line, make them wait, and starve, then see what happens. It’s a recipe for disaster.

By the way – there’s NEVER a line at Bakemeawish.com, where you can have your cake order done in only 5 minutes and schedule your cake delivery whenever you please. :)

The Wide (Weird) World of Cakes

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

No one said my job isn’t interesting. Each and everyday I’m scouring the web for articles on cakes, cupcakes, innovative designs, new recipes… you get the idea. Sites like CakeWrecks.com and others make this a very enjoyable excursion down the information superhighway. The web has been a bit quiet on the subject matter of interesting cakes lately, but I feel like I stuck gold today! I just had to share these two new sites that were brought to my attention – mostly for their “take” on the wide (and weird!) world of cakes. I’m just not sure you’d want to try these, I don’t, but you may get a kick out of checking out their sites.

PIZZA CAKES

Looks like a pizza, tastes like a cake. What? I had to review their site twice and then find an article on Fox News to help explain it all to me too! This baker creates custom fondant & sugar pieces, layered over “cake crusts” (I assume a fluffy layer or brownie base) to make her cakes look like pizzas. I don’t have anything against this, per se, but is there really a market for this? Do you want your cake to look like a pizza? Maybe its a guy thing…

Check out the article on FoxNews.com – if you dare!

LAZY CAKES

Ok, I’ve been to college. I get it. This company has decided to make a ‘legal’ pot brownie, or cake rather, but using Melatonin as an ingredient. Melatonin, as I’ve learned is a hormone that regulated the sleep cycle in humans – basically, you eat, you get sleepy, you rest well (their slogan – “Relaxation Baked In”). Again, can’t say I’d want to try this, but it can definitely cause a hazard for children. We ran across this article stating the controversy. I suppose a lot like a booze cake (liquor baked in), it’s definitely ADULTS ONLY.

Maybe after you have a Lazy cake you’ll want to eat a Pizza Cake? Time will tell…

Halloween Cake Ideas!

Easy to Make Halloween Cakes
Halloween is right around the corner and there are so many different decorations, costumes, and candies to choose from. While your local store may offer several creative choices for these items, it may be hard to find a
Halloween cake that is truly original. Luckily, there are several Halloween cakes that are easy to make at home. All of these Halloween cakes use cake mixes, frosting, and candy that can be found at your local grocery store. Also, these Halloween cakes are very easy to make and decorate.

Halloween Cake Ideas #1: Attack of the Giant Spiders Theme

This Halloween cake idea is great for kids and adults. All you need to make this Halloween cake is a chocolate cake mix (plus the ingredients to make it), chocolate frosting, coconut, green food coloring, three large gummy spiders, black M&Ms, and a small toy car. The first think you need to do is bake the cake as directed on the box. Let it cool and then frost it with the chocolate frosting. Next pour a bag of coconut into a bowl and add enough food coloring to make the coconut look like grass. Spread the coconut onto the frosting, leaving a path that looks like a road. On the path, place the M&Ms to make it look like asphalt. Next place the toy car on the road, at a slight angle. Then place one of the gummy spiders onto of the car. Place the other two spiders around the car, like they are surrounding it. If you wanted to make this Halloween cake even more creative, you could take red gel and make it looks like there was blood coming out of the car.

Memories of Fall… Caramel Apple Cake Giveaway!

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

As weathers cool, leaves change and kids are back in school, I’m reminded of the wonderful memories I have of the autumn season. I recall seeing friends again after a summer away & the haunted houses we’d go to. As a younger child, it meant hay rides, apple orchards, cider and caramel apples. It’s interesting that September seems more a fresh start for me then, say, new years. In my mind, this is the start of new beginnings and old comfort.

As a salute to fall, I want to give away to one of our readers a Caramel Apple Crumb cake – the perfect cake for an autumn breakfast (or late night treat!). All you have to do is comment on this post and tell us what your favorite memory of fall is. Have at it – we’ll announce a winner on facebook and twitter on Monday morning, so you have until then to comment.

HAPPY FALL!

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

fatherFather’s Day is less than three weeks away and we want to help you to celebrate Dad.

So here’s what you do to win a free Triple Chocolate Enrobed Brownie cake. We want to know why your Dad deserves a cake– share your touching/funny/honest/just plain true stories here and tell us why your Dad deserves a cake more than all the rest. A winner will be chosen by the end of the week, so make sure to answer soon!

Extra points will be given for those who tweet the contest with hast tag #bakemeawish and for those who become fans of the blog.

And just in case you haven’t heard about how delicious this cake can be, our moist & fudgy brownie cake goes through three chocolate “passes” before it’s “done”: first it’s enrobed in rich chocolate, then it gets completely blanketed with a shower of dark chocolate shaves; last, the cake is finished with milk and dark chocolate glazes drizzled all over and the Belgian chocolate plaque of your choice; for a brownie dessert that’s over-the-top-triple-delicious!

CakeFrame

Is it time for another cake contest already? We can’t wait! This week show off your creativity for a chance to win.

Using the phrase: “All I really needed to know I learned from eating cake,” finish this sentence with things you’ve learned.

Example: All I really need to know I learned from eating cake, move fast or you’ll never get the last piece.

Take advice from a spot Glenn Beck did with BMAW where he said that his favorite way to eat cake was from the middle, because then no one else wanted any! To watch the piece, see here: http://www.bakemeawish.com/banner/Television/GlenBeck7.3.08.wmv
Please answer here, on facebook or via Twitter! Extra points (as always) for subscribing to our blog.
